Say Hello to Babey

This is the little munchkin I'm sitting until Tuesday.

I've only spent a few days with her, but I've become very attached.

Can you blame me?

Babey is a 15-year-old Yorkie who has lost her vision and can only hear really loud bursts of noise. She still walks with bubbly excitement and she can sniff out a scent better than a bloodhound.

According to the PetMD age calculator, Babey is 76 in human years. All we can say is, we're so glad Babey came into our lives. She's such a little inspiration.

We're Spending More on Our Pets

Well this is encouraging to anyone in the pet industry, whether you walk dogs a few times a week or own a pet boutique.

Despite hard economic times, we haven't stopped spending on our pets. In fact, we are spending more than ever before on our furry friends. Check out this funky infographic we discovered over at one of our favorite sites Good.

Tips for Dog-Walking

Someone asked me recently, "Are you a fan of the Dog Whisperer?"

I think I looked at him blankly. Um... is this a trick question? 

"Of course! I love him! We've actually been watching DVDs of his shows because I found them at a thrift store," I said. 

"Yeah he seems pretty badass."

I guess there are a couple schools of thought here. You either like him and think he's a genius, or you think he's got it all backwards. We've started to use his tenets in training our dog Agnes and they work like magic. 

1. Exercise

2. Discipline

3. Affection

It's important to prioritize these in this order to establish proper behavior in an animal. If you're all about affection all the time, and we've seen this in many cases, you're going to have one serious alpha on your hands who will not listen to commands. 

I think everyone could learn something from watching Cesar Millan's show. We follow Cesar's Way pretty closely and we think his Tips for Mastering the Dog Walk should be required reading for all dog owners and pet service professionals.
